🌿 Career Shifts, Life Shifts: How to Stay Grounded When Everything Is Changing at Once

🌿 The Sacred Return is a 6-part blog series for the woman who’s been strong for everyone else—but knows, deep down, it’s time to come home to herself.

Each post is a gentle invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect with your truth. This is your sacred return.

There’s a moment — maybe you’ve felt it — when everything you once counted on feels like it’s shifting under your feet.

Career. Relationships. Home life. Even your sense of who you are and what you want.

Change rarely comes neatly packaged. It often shows up all at once — a job transition, a breakup, a relocation, a deeper yearning for a life that feels more true to you.

And when it does, the old strategies of “push through” or “figure it all out fast” often leave us feeling more lost, not less.

In times like these, the real strength comes not from running faster, but from rooting deeper — finding steadiness inside yourself while the external world rearranges around you.

I know this because I’ve lived it myself.

In the early years of my career, I built a thriving staffing firm in New York — growing it from a small startup into one of the top recruiting firms.
It had taken years of grit, long hours, and steady vision to create something solid.
The work was demanding but deeply rewarding.

Then 9/11 happened — a tragedy that didn’t just shake the city; like so many of us, it shifted something inside me.

Stay grounded when life shifts

In the months that followed, I began questioning what success really meant.

Not because I was dissatisfied with what I had built — but because a deeper part of me, a part I had long kept quietly in the background, started rising to the surface.

For years, I had been drawn to healing — fascinated by the connection between mind, body, and spirit.

After 9/11, that quiet passion became impossible to ignore.

I made the decision to go back to school, balancing work and study, to formally train in therapeutic bodywork and holistic healing — work that had long stirred something deep inside me.

It was not a decision made from fear.
It was a decision made from listening.
From honoring a truth that had been patiently waiting for me to bring it forth.

That path led me to open a beautiful wellness center — a space devoted to resilience, restoration, and helping others reconnect with themselves in a world that often pulls us away from our core.

It wasn't easy to pivot.
It wasn’t neat.
But it was necessary.

And it became the beginning of a life more aligned with who I truly was — not just who I had been.

If you’re feeling that same shift inside yourself now, know this:

You are not breaking down.
You are breaking open — into something wiser, stronger, and more true.

Here’s how you begin finding steady ground when everything around you feels like it’s moving.

🌱 1. Anchor to Your Core Values

When the familiar falls away, your values are your lighthouse.
They are the quiet truths that remain steady even when your circumstances change.

Take some time to ask yourself:

  • What principles have guided me through my best moments — and my hardest ones?

  • What matters most to me, no matter where I live, what title I have, or who surrounds me?

Maybe it’s freedom. Authenticity. Contribution. Connection.
These values aren’t “goals” you achieve — they are ways of being you honor.

When choices feel overwhelming, use your core values as your North Star.
If an option compromises them, it’s not the right path — no matter how shiny it looks from the outside.

👉 Mini Practice: Write your 10 core values in a notebook or journal page.

When making important decisions during seasons of change in your life, ask: Does this align with my core values and who I am becoming?

Values are important!

If you’d like a little guidance in discovering what your core values are, I created a 5-page Personal Values Workbook that walks you through this process step-by-step — helping you get clear on what matters most right now.

🌱 2. Give Yourself Permission to Pause

In a world that rewards hustle, choosing stillness can feel radical — even wrong.
But in seasons of upheaval, your nervous system needs time to recalibrate.

You do not have to:

  • Have a five-year plan tomorrow

  • Know exactly what you want next week

  • Force clarity before it’s ready

Pausing isn't quitting. It's creating space for real clarity — the kind that bubbles up naturally when you're not trying to squeeze it out.

Take walks without an agenda.

Journal without judgment.

Sit in silence even when it’s uncomfortable.
Pauses are sacred — they let new dreams and directions catch up to you.

👉 Mini Practice:
Set aside 15 minutes today just to be — no phone, no tasks, no planning.
Let yourself breathe without a goal.

🌱 3. Strengthen Your Intuition Muscle

When logical analysis can't untangle the path forward, your intuition can.
It’s that quiet knowing that lives beneath the mental chatter.

Here’s the thing: intuition isn’t “magic” reserved for a few gifted people.
It’s a natural sense you can cultivate — and during big life shifts, it becomes essential.

Start by noticing:

  • What feels light vs. what feels heavy in your body?

  • Where do you feel energized — even a little — when you imagine different possibilities?

  • What decisions or people leave you feeling drained, contracted, or tense?

Tiny signals.
Over time, following those small intuitive breadcrumbs leads you to places your mind could never have strategized.

👉 Mini Practice: This week, practice making one small decision (what to eat, where to go, what to read) purely based on your intuitive nudge — not logic or habit. See what opens up.

If you’re looking for soulful tools to help you reconnect with your inner knowing, I love the

🌱 4. Honor the Grieving That Comes with Growth

Even positive changes can carry a quiet grief — for the old identities, routines, or relationships that no longer fit.
Often, we expect ourselves to only feel excitement about a fresh start, but true transformation usually brings a bittersweet edge.

Let yourself honor what you’re leaving behind — without shame, without rushing.
Grieving is not weakness. It's wisdom. It's making room in your heart for what's next.

Maybe you journal a letter to the chapter that's ending. Maybe you cry on a quiet afternoon. Maybe you simply say "thank you" to what brought you here.

Loss and expansion are often intertwined. Feeling both is part of the journey.

👉 Mini Practice: Light a candle today as a small ritual — honoring what you're releasing and inviting in what you're ready to receive.
You can keep it beautifully simple: a calm meditation candle or a soothing lavender essential oil roller can turn a quiet moment into a sacred one.

🌱 5. Remember That Becoming is Not Linear

There’s no straight line to “figuring it all out.”
Life moves in spirals, waves, and cycles — and so does growth.

Some days you will feel clear and energized. Other days, you may feel lost again.

This isn’t failure. This is nature. Trees don’t grow taller every single day. They have seasons of blooming, shedding, resting, and rooting deeper.

Give yourself the same grace. When you trust the process — even when you can't see the full path ahead — you build an unshakable foundation inside yourself.
One that will outlast any single season.

👉 Mini Practice:
Think back to a past time when you felt lost — and how it ultimately led to growth. Let it remind you: you are being shaped for something bigger than you can yet see.

🌿 Reflection Invitation:

What is one thing you know to be true about yourself right now — even if everything else feels uncertain?

Breathe into that truth. Let it steady you. Let it remind you:
You are not lost. You are simply being invited into a deeper becoming.
