🌿 The Power of the Pause - How life’s in-between moments can become the foundation for everything new.

🌸 This post is part of The Sacred Returna 6-part blog series on redefining success, self, and soul. Each piece is a gentle invitation to come home to yourself.

We live in a world that rewards motion. Do more. Move faster. Keep going, no matter what. But what if the greatest wisdom isn’t found in acceleration, but in the pause?

The moments of stillness we often resist are the very ones that allow us to reconnect with what we truly value. In that quiet space between what was and what will be, clarity often finds us — not because we force it, but because we finally make room for it.

It’s in those pauses — brief or extended — that we start to hear the soft voice within. The one that speaks not in urgency, but in truth. And from that place, we remember what matters.

🌿 A Personal Reflection

There’s a particular kind of quiet that arrives when one chapter ends and the next hasn’t quite begun. I found myself in that space after the COVID pandemic forced me to close the doors of my wellness center — a business I had lovingly built and run for over 20 years.

It wasn’t burnout. It wasn’t failure. I was proud of the work. But overnight, the sessions stopped. The structure disappeared. And I was left in an unfamiliar stillness — one that many might rush to fill. I tried at first. Planning. Producing. Figuring it out. But something in me knew better. I had guided others to listen inward for years. Now it was my turn — again.

Because I had lived this before.

Years earlier, I was the CEO of a top New York staffing firm — a business I built from the ground up. When 9/11 hit, everything changed. That chapter, too, came to an end. And though it was heartbreaking, it also taught me something essential: when life falls apart, the pause that follows is sacred.

So this time, I didn’t force a plan. I didn’t scramble to rebuild. I paused.

Not out of defeat — but out of trust. I had come to understand the power of the pause. The uncomfortable in-between. The space we so often avoid. It’s not empty. It’s a womb for what’s next. And in that quiet, something new began to take shape.

What I heard in that stillness was this: it’s time to bring everything together. The recruiter. The healer. The teacher. The guide. It was time to integrate every chapter of my life into one clear path of service — and that’s what gave birth to the work I now do as a Manifestation Life and Career Coach.

I help women navigate turning points — job loss, divorce, reinvention, illness — not by rushing into action, but by learning to pause with purpose. Because that space between what was and what’s next? It holds wisdom. Direction. Power.

That vision didn’t arrive in a brainstorm or a business plan. It arrived in the quiet.

And now, pausing isn’t something I resist — it’s something I practice. Again and again. Because every time I make space, the next chapter finds me. And it always finds me better prepared to receive it.

✨ Why Stillness Unlocks What’s Meant for You

We tend to search for our next move by looking outside of ourselves — for strategies, signs, solutions. But when we pause, we access something even more powerful: our own knowing.

Stillness clears space.

And that space is where ideas begin to take form. It’s where we reconnect with what we’ve been too busy to feel. It’s where wisdom finds us — not because we push, but because we’re present.

You don’t have to go on a retreat or take a sabbatical to experience this. Small, sacred pauses are enough to shift everything.

One of my favorite tools for creating intentional stillness — even just for a few minutes a day — is the Insight Timer app. It offers free meditations, breathwork sessions, and calming music to help you reconnect in the quiet.

🌿 Mini Reflection: Where Are You Being Asked to Pause?

Take a quiet moment. Breathe deeply.

Ask yourself:

  • Where in my life have I been moving on autopilot?

  • What have I been overriding that actually needs my attention?

  • What value have I lost sight of in all the doing?

Let whatever rises be heard. No judgment. Just truth.

We often resist stillness because we’re afraid of what it will reveal. But the pause doesn’t break you — it brings you back. Back to your body. Back to your values. Back to the wiser part of you that’s been waiting for the space to speak.

In a culture that glorifies the hustle, choosing to pause is a quiet revolution. It’s how we find our way home.

🌱 Pausing Is a Form of Leadership

We’ve been taught that leadership looks like acceleration — staying ahead, pushing through, keeping it all together no matter the cost. The old model rewards constant motion. The faster you move, the more you’re seen as committed, successful, driven.

But the new way — the aligned way — invites something deeper.

It asks you to slow down. To tune in. To lead not from urgency, but from clarity.

Because true leadership isn’t about how much you do — it’s about how deeply you listen. And when you allow yourself to pause, even briefly, you create the space to lead from within.

You don’t need to earn your pause. You don’t have to justify it or apologize for it. You simply have to honor it — because it is in that space of stillness that your next steps become visible. The pause doesn’t delay your progress. It reveals your path.

🖋️ Mini Practice: A Pause for Receiving

Try this today.

Take five slow breaths.
Close your eyes.
Place your hand over your heart.

Then ask yourself:

  • What’s trying to reach me right now — that I’ve been too distracted to hear?

  • Where am I pushing, when I could be allowing?

  • What truth is rising in this space I’ve created?

Let whatever comes be enough. Don’t chase it. Just witness it.

If you’d like a beautiful way to bring this kind of reflection into your daily life, the Five-Minute Journal is one of the tools I return to again and again. It helps you slow down, anchor your day with intention, and notice what’s rising beneath the surface.

🌿 Feeling Called to Go Deeper?

🌷 A Gentle Invitation

If you’ve been moving fast but feeling off-center, you don’t need more pressure. You need more presence.

So here’s your invitation:

🕯️ Unplug for a few minutes today.
🌿 Sit in silence and place your hand over your heart.
💗 Ask: What matters to me now?

Then simply… listen.

Because sometimes the most powerful movement forward begins by not moving at all.

If you’re navigating a season of stillness in your life, career, relationship, or simply learning to soften your grip on what's next, I highly recommend Wintering by Katherine May. It’s a beautiful reflection on the quiet, difficult, and often overlooked phases of life — and how they prepare us, in ways we never expect, for what’s to come.
