🌿 The New Definition of Success: Why "Having It All" Means Something Different Now
🌸 This post is part of The Sacred Return — a 6-part blog series on redefining success, self, and soul. Each piece is a gentle invitation to come home to yourself.
There’s a version of success we’re all handed early in life — and for a while, many of us chase it.
It looks like achievement. Like titles, busy calendars, overflowing inboxes, big salaries, and perfectly curated lives.
It’s the kind of success that earns applause from the outside world… but often leaves us feeling a little hollow on the inside.
At some point — maybe after a big life shake-up, maybe after quiet years of soul fatigue — we realize something:
The version of success we were taught to want isn’t the version we necessarily need.
🌸 The Truth Most Women Discover (Eventually)
Here’s what I’ve seen again and again — in my own life, and in the lives of the incredible women I’ve coached:
Success isn’t just about doing more.
It’s about becoming more you.
It’s not about checking boxes.
It’s about listening to what your soul is truly craving.
And yes — the beautiful part is this:
When you align your life with what genuinely fulfills you, abundance has a way of finding you.
Opportunities expand. Resources show up. The right people cross your path.
Because alignment is magnetic.
🌿 One book that completely reframed my relationship to ambition and energy is Do Less by Kate Northrup. If you’ve been feeling the tension between doing and being, this book is a powerful place to begin again.
🌿 Mini Exercise: What’s Fueling Your Current Definition?
Take twenty quiet minutes to complete these prompts in a journal or notes app:
Success to me used to mean…
Success today feels more like…
I still catch myself chasing ___ because ___.
What if success was allowed to feel easier?
This isn’t about having the “right” answer — it’s about meeting yourself where you are.
🌿 A Gentle Inventory: What Does Success Mean to You Now?
Let’s step out of autopilot and ask a deeper question.
Not, “Am I successful?”
But — “Who decided what success looks like?”
Take a moment to reflect:
🌸 Whose version of success have I been living?
🌸 What parts of my current definition no longer feel true?
🌸 What does soul-aligned success look like for me now?
🌸 If I stopped striving… what would I start listening for?
You don’t need to have all the answers.
Sometimes the most powerful shift begins with asking better questions.
When we slow down long enough to ask what we really want—not what we’ve been taught to want—we begin waking up to our purpose. And from there, we can start building a life that reflects it.
🌿 Mini Exercise: For Your Soul-Aligned Success
This week, try this nourishing visualization practice:
Find a quiet space. Close your eyes for a few moments and imagine a version of your life that feels deeply successful — not flashy, but fulfilling.
What does your ideal day look like?
Who are you with? What are you doing? How does it feel in your body?
Now open your eyes and start gathering images or words that reflect that version of you.
Spread them out, cut them up, and bring them to life on a board in front of you.
(If you need a fresh surface to begin, this vision board kit is one of my favorites and has everything you need to get started.)
Let it guide you—not toward perfection, but toward alignment.
Because waking up to your purpose means redefining success—not by the standards you’ve inherited, but by the vision that feels true to you.
🌿 The New Markers of Success (Hint: They’re Not on a Résumé)
Here's what real success often looks like — the kind that sustains you, not just impresses others:
🌸 Peace that isn’t disrupted by productivity
🌸 Purpose that goes deeper than a job title
🌸 Saying “no” without guilt — and “yes” with your whole heart
🌸 Feeling at home in your body, your choices, your life
🌸 Time to breathe, create, rest, and be
This is the kind of success that doesn’t burn you out. It builds you back up.
🌿 Mini Exercise: A “Success Audit” for This Season of Life
Ask yourself:
What am I currently working toward — and is it still aligned with who I am?
What am I willing to release that no longer fits this version of me?
What simple thing brings me success-feelings — peace, joy, pride — today?
Let your answers guide one small shift you can make this week.
